I have just noticed that there are no Ukrainian flags out this time. Who decided they should be flown last year and who decided they should not be flown this year?
We have had Paul Threadgold 07960451573 on more than one occasion to fix roofing and guttering problems and can fully recommend him – prompt to respond, good work and reasonable pricing.
Thanks for cheering me up.
Can any one recommend someone local who can clean out one piece of gutter and down spout at my property just outside Audlem. The guttering will probably require replacing sooner than later so there would be that work to carry out in due course.
Try : Haighton's Taxis – 01270 624574 or 07595 908879. They're based in Nantwich.
Try Haightons from Nantwich, have used them on many occasions including to Manchester airport. Always been reliable.
Carol Morgan, have a look at the below link for taxi`s to Manchester Airport, alternatively, search Chatbox topics for Airport Transfer Service.

Hope this helps.
Audlem Community SpeedWatch are asking for volunteers to assist with monitoring the speed of vehicles entering and leaving Audlem. The time involved is an hour a week. Have you got time to assist to lower vehicle speed within our village? The more volunteers we have then it will not take long before the internet informs vehicle drivers to watch out as you are entering a village which does not tolerate vehicles entering and leaving above the recognised Speed Limit of 30 mph.
I have been asked why The Parish Council does not encourage more 30mph signs. The reason is straightforward. It is illegal for Audlem Parish Council to place 30mph signs within a street lighted zone.
We have recorded more then 300 vehicles entering and leaving Audlem between 2-3pm which will only increase year by year.
Audlem is a village which does not have any SIDs (Speed Indicator Devises). We must be one of the few villages within Cheshire that does not have any SIDs. Another tool to assist to reduce speeds within Audlem.
Should you wish to discuss to become a volunteer please phone me on 07377623993 or e-mail me on gmacbrown@hotmail.com
Many thanks.

We've recently used Anthony's Private hire. He has a range of vehicles and was prompt and reasonably priced. Based in Market Drayton his number is 07566 247707. I can well recommend him.
Morning – could anyone recommend a taxi company to take us to Manchester Airport please?

Great to see the Lord Combemere in opening again.
Nantwich Tailoring on Hospital Street , just had my suit altered, very pleased with the changes.
Kitty of Kitty's Clothing Alterations is excellent. 4 Oatmarket, Nantwich. Tel 07492 367893.
Thanks everyone for the advice. Cartridges successfully dropped off today.
In view of the roadworks at the hospital, can anyone advise on the best route to the hospital main entrance from Audlem Thanks
I'm asking this more in hope than in expectation, but if anyone has any photos of the old railway bridge and immediately surrounding area, when it was still in place, please would you contact me on brucem888@btinternet.com.
The response to my last request regarding flooding on Green Lane at this point has been disappointing: only one response, although that was very helpful.
You could either contact the Guides on Facebook or if like me you aren't on Facebook they are currently meeting at 7.15pm on Tuesdays at the playing field, maybe you could drop them off there?
Anyone know of anybody locally who can make alterations to a business suit?
Yes, please put printer cartridges in any box outside with the terracycle collections, as the actual box is made of cardboard so stored inside.
Thanks for your support,
Kay, Audlem Guides
I recall seeing a post on Audlem Online that the Guides are re-cycling printer cartridges. I have several but was unable to find a specific box for them outside the Scout & Guide Hall. Can anyone advise please?
Has anyone any musical talents that they would be prepared to do an hour session for a group of elderly people who attend the ADCA Groups in Audlem . It would be a very rewarding experience to give something back to our senior members of the village. Music and singing can really lift peoples spirits so if you think you can offer any help please let me know
I'm just wondering whether the Lord Combermere has reopened and is it serving food? Unless I've missed it I haven't seen any information on AOL.....but perhaps their roving reporter is on holiday!
Thanks for the information, Wes.
I have done a quick Web search and found that this mechanism (complaint under Section 56 of the Highways Act 1980) was used by an Audlem resident in 2021:
https://www.cheshire-live.co.uk/news/chester-cheshire-news/little-known-legal-procedure-cheshire-20579662
I have also found the following: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/cy/request/notices_under_section_56_highway
The sections of The Highways Act 1980 that appear to me to be relevant are
Section 41 (statutory duty to maintain highway): https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1980/66/section/4,
Section 56 (Procedure for an order to repair highway): https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1980/66/section/56 and
Section 58 (Special defence in action against a highway authority for damages for non-repair of highway): https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1980/66/section/58
The Law and Policy section of the Institute of Highway Engineers Winter Maintenance Handbook 2022 includes the following:
'If a failure to maintain the highway leads to the existence of a transient hazard such as a flood caused by poorly maintained drains, then liability for a breach of section 41 can be established, subject to the statutory defence.'
The first page of the same section of the document includes the following about the statutory defence:
'To mitigate the effect of imposing an absolute duty of maintenance, Section 58 of the Highways Act created a statutory defence whereby it is a defence in a private law claim for damages against the highway authority to prove that it had taken such care as was reasonably required to secure that the highway was not dangerous.'
Wes or anyone else interested in trying to put pressure on CEC Highways to resolve this: please email me (brucem888@btinternet.com) and I'll respond.
