Malcolm Lees on Shroppie car park

8th August 2024 @ 5:01pm

We had lunch at the Shroppie Fly some weeks ago and although my guest took a photo of my car reg number and entered it on the Car Park Computer correctly I still got a bill for £100.
Appealing the charge took me half a day on the parking company's website where I found the "Appeals Procedure" which is not simple. I gave details of precisely what we ate, drank and paid for but retained the receipt as evidence pending the threatened court action. Eventually the appeal was accepted but the company still insisted on charging a £20 admin fee supported by pages of explanation for their action.
We love the Shroppie but who wants to sit there eating a relaxing lunch and wondering if the same will happen again?

After recommendation on AOL I contacted WHS LTD. 07526563723 a young man named William. He came to the house the following day, cleaned said gutters, resealed some joints and re-configured a down spout. Excellent attitude explaining what he was doing. Fully recommend . Thank you AOL and William.

Julian – TechMedia on Telephone Scams – How to avoid them.

7th August 2024 @ 6:51pm

There seems to be a spike in fraudulent telephone scams at the moment, thankfully it's fairly easy to avoid becoming a victim when armed with some basic information.

Fraudsters will often phone you claiming to be from Microsoft, BT or even your bank, claiming they are calling you to help with some problem they have discovered.
Firstly, it's very unlikely any of these companies would ever call you so this should alert you that the call is likely to be a scam.
You will likely find the person on the other end of the call is polite, professional and well spoken.
They will often attempt to validate their identity by "spoofing" their phone number, for example in a common bank card scam the call will appear to have come from the fraud team number printed on the back of you bank card.
Spoofing simply means that that the number displayed on your phone is not really the number they are calling from.

In my opinion the quickest way to protect yourself is to politely end the call thanking them for their help.
Maybe say you are busy at the moment and will call the company fraud number later.
Past experience shows that simply hanging up will likely result in them calling again.

Sadly these people are very good at what they do, rest assured everything they are saying is almost certainly untrue, there likely isn't anything wrong with your computer and no one (other than them) is trying to access your bank account.

Goes without saying really but never give anyone pin numbers, passwords and most importantly never allow anyone to remotely access your computer.
Security is generally good, no one can access your computer or bank account unless you let them.
If your bank ever did detect fraudulent activity the FIRST thing they do is freeze the account then wait for you to call them.
They do not call you.

If you happen to receive such a call and you really do think they're telling the truth the advice is still the same, end the call.
All companies and banks have dedicated fraud investigators, their legitimate numbers are readily available on their genuine websites, in the case of your bank the legitimate number is printed on the back of every bank card.
If you really think something is actually wrong, call the genuine legitimate fraud team and report the incident.

James Holland on Ian the plumber ( new to Audlem )

7th August 2024 @ 5:15pm

In response to Elisabeth recommending Ian her Brother.
I used Ian in an emergency a couple of weeks ago for a burst pipe.
His communication was excellent ( rare in most tradesman ) attended after hours, did a great job and was not expensive. Plus he's a really nice fella. Thoroughly recommend.

I had always understood that Parish Councils had to give 7 days notice prior to a meeting being called.

Kerry Vacara on Shroppie car park

7th August 2024 @ 8:29am

I was just wondering if anyone has received a parking fine for the Shroppie car park AFTER putting their reg in at the bar? And if so, how you appealed. I have proof I was there at the pub from bank statements but of course the machine you put your reg in doesn't issue receipts so can't prove I did that, even though I know I did. Thanks

Anyone know if the road to Nantwich is still closed tomorrow, Wednesday 7th Aug. Cheshire East website seems awfully confusing (to me ) on this topic.

Patricia Storey on Skirting Boards

6th August 2024 @ 6:11am

Can anyone kindly recommend a person, I don't think it needs a specialist, to reinstate new skirting boards in dining room and small hall following recent damp proofing at my property ? I will have the new skirting boards on site ready. New laminate flooring will be completed today, Tuesday 6 August so no desperate rush. Best point of contact for me would be my mobile
07515 399 447. Would be most grateful. Patricia Storey.

Hi Nessa and Carol

I can highly recommend my brother Ian who has just moved into Audlem. He built a strong and loyal client base in the New Forest and never needed to advertise due to client recommendations. His telephone number is 07831 334420.

Julie Reynolds on Patio Gas

5th August 2024 @ 7:25am

Thank you for all your suggestions for suppliers of patio gas locally and for the very kind offer of an empty bottle. I have a bottle that I'm using already that I brought with me when we moved to the area, but wanted to make sure I knew where to go for a refill.

Once again huge thanks 🙏

Billy Gibbons on Impatience

2nd August 2024 @ 2:03pm

To the impatient and irate driver; Really sorry I pulled out of my property, put my left hand indicator on and stopped thus holding you up for a few seconds. The problem I have is, I haven't got as far in life as I'd hoped so I have to physically get out of my motor car, walk to my gates, shut and then lock them. However, if you'd care to put your hand in your pocket and splash out on a pair of electrically operated, remote controlled gates I'd be very grateful. Obviously not quite as grateful as you'd be because you then wouldn't have to stop behind me, wait for an oncoming car to pass then go round my car. Just a thought; how do you cope in the centre of Audlem at it's busiest times? ;-)

Cheryl Cooper on Audlem Parish Council

30th July 2024 @ 3:32pm

I'm sure everybody attending Monday nights Parish Council meeting will have come to similar conclusion. The Parish Council historically has been less than competent. It has patently failed to follow the rules pertaining to the administration and financial governance of Parish Councils. I would also question, whether some Parish Councillors have complied with the code of conduct expected from representatives of a public body. It is perhaps timely to remind all the councillors that the authority to govern is granted to them by the precept payers. It is my view however that going forward if there is a little more common sense applied and a little more humility in regard to communications with the residents of Audlem the current debacle could be resolved speedily and without further expenditure. I look forward to seeing a resolution to the issues as quickly as possible and that the trust in our representatives can be restored.
