Does anyone know where I can get Tangent Cinque DAB Radio/ CD Player repaired. It has power coming through but that is it.
It would be lovely if I could be able to play Christmas CDs and have radio working.
It is not for the PC to take on the local road network and start gritting the roads, that's Cheshire East's role and pressure should be put on them to fulfil that requirement.
The government advice is to work from home if you can. Seeing as there is, so far, no provision for remote meetings then it is obvious that the meeting should have gone ahead to get through some of the pile of outstanding matters. Maybe NALC doesn't have authority here?
Sylvia,
You're welcome. The Guides enjoy completing random acts of kindness 😊
Jim I'm not sure how the PC has shown any reluctance to consider could you please expand on this accusation
Risk and liability has been talked about on here: If the Parish Council take on responsibilty for gritting it is the PC's liability not individual councillors: I would add that when placing any contract for outside contractors such as those used for gritting, the normal vetting including approriate insurance cover is of course essential. Dont let reluctance to consider gritting by the PC put you off! Here's hoping that Cheshire East will fulfil their duty..but if its now withdrawn you have to decide whether to accept the consequent danger or do something about it and the Parish Council is a good start.
Can we all remember that the tree in Trafalgar Square is a gift from the Norwegian people to thank the British for their support during world war 2. I think it's a shame that people are concerned more on the way it looks rather then the reason behind the tree
Hi Monique, they have a small, black terrier-type dog up at Seaton Farm in Coxbank. Not sure if it's male or female but it doesn't wear a collar. Maybe from there?
A small rough haired black female dog has turned up in Coxbank. Without collar. Anyone missing her?
With regards to the suggested idea of the Parish Council taking on road gritting, provided it was the Parish Councillors that took on the liability side I can see no objection as they would be the ones initiating it albeit supposedly on the residents behalf. I could ill afford to a part of liability claims as well as additional costs that may yet be in the pipeline for Turnpike Field.
I completely agree with the previous comments, but surely the drivers should take some responsibility. Nowadays it seems whatever the conditions drivers have only one speed. About 100 years ago, when I passed my test, we were taught to drive to the weather conditions.
Hi Jim it's definitely something we can look into obviously it all comes down to cost. Personally I feel it would be better to get Cheshire east council to grit properly and what is needed rather then take the expense on ourselves. My worry would be if we take the expense on we also take liability on as I say though more then happy to look into it
We moved int the village for Christmas 1984 and there certainly was a large tree in the square. Will look through my 35mm slides for a photo.
Chris
I am not an Audlem resident but often travel through the area from Loggerheads/Woore. When Staffs CC Highways reduced gritting services 5 years ago to treat only the A 51 and A53, Loggerheads Parish Council decided that it was a good use of Council Tax payers' money to provide its own gritting on the steep roads in part of the Parish and it set aside money specifically for this purpose.
Parish Council Grit bins have also been installed, and its hired gritter lorry responds at 4 hours notice when required. The PC has been congratulated on this public service and Ratepayers think its a good deal. Something for Audlem PC to consider, perhaps?
You don't like heights Billy, well it's a good job the very first tree was only 8 foot high then, (not totally sure about that fact) but this story gives 'putting a star on top of your tree' a whole new meaning, merry xmas.
Many thanks for the replies folks. 1974 totally ties in with the myth...sorry, story that a friend told me about him arriving in the Village one night in his Daytona Yellow Ford Capri to find people looking up at the tree. He got out of his car to see someone at the top of it. When he asked this person what he was doing he apparently replied "It seemed like a good idea at the time" My friend coaxed him down, bundled him in his car and took him to his home. What a total idiot to do such a stupid and dangerous thing!
Not only can I not remember it....I don't even like heights!!!!!
This is becoming total nonsense now, its turning into a farce and needs to come to an end. Everyone needs to live with it and move on.
Hi Colin. With regards to the investigation we have submitted all information to the police. We have received a letter from fraud investigation team explaining all has been received and they are investigating all we can do now is await a response as soon as we know more I will make sure to let people know.
Not sure that the proposed wedding venue at The Parkes will bring in more revenue for the church. Most of these places have a licence for weddings so that the whole ceremony can be held on site and generate their own revenue. More concerning is the increased traffic using a single track lane like Monk's Lane where there are no passing points.
Hi Billy,
I have lived in the village since 1991 and I think there has been a Christmas Tree in the Square since then but I don't know about before that year.
Maybe some real Audlemites would remember before 1991??
I don't have any photos either of the Tree from times past.
I have a very old photograph of the Hunt meeting in the Square but not sure if that was on Boxing Day one year; it's black and white and so you can't tell what colour their jackets are. Someone would have a Pink fit if I mentioned that anyway...
Nigel.
Hi Billy – I've only been a resident of this lovely village since Apr 2016, so I can't help you.
What I can tell you is *the exact date* and approx. time that the gorgeous tree fell down ... Friday 26 November 2021 at 2230hrs (ish!) ... I say ish because we were snuggly tucked away in the Snug at The Lord C following Big Switch On having an well-earned drink.
One of our group, facing the window said, (not verbatim) 'oh no, the tree's gone' ... cries of 'nooo' from the room ...
Next moment saw us all out in the dark, rain, wind attempting to 'make safe'. The rest you know :)
Billy,
It was 1974 when we put the first tree up with 240v coloured lamps and tough rubber sheathed cable. We used to bring the tree from a property in Daisy Bank Crescent and approximately 20 of us used to carry the tree to the village and raise it with ropes and manpower. I used to put the lights on with an extension ladder.
Happy days.
Could anyone tell me what happened re the recent investigation into possible misappropriation of funds within the local Parish Council, have I missed its outcome, or is it still ongoing? It appears to me to have all gone very quiet unless of course, I missed its conclusion.
Go on then, I'll put it another way; Does anyone have any old photographs (pre 1980's) of Audlem at Christmas with a Christmas tree in the Square please? Really don't know any other ways to ask this question. Hold on...how about this; Does anyone know when Audlem first started displaying a Christmas tree in the Square? There...that ought to do it ....not going to hold my breath though..I did that when I was 7 and went all blue and fell over....
Just noticed the post regarding our iconic church. Another good reason to support The Parks wedding venue project. I'm sure weddings in Audlem would create revenue for the church, unless of course anyone who objects would be happy to fund it?
