Geraldine Leighton on Another Christmas card

Please contact us if you would like to collect it.

Norman; I do believe there are some surplus traffic lights just this side of Adderley, if you decide to set up your own works.........

Nigel Mottershead on Just say hello

23rd December 2021 @ 2:06pm

Hi Dave,
We don't know each other but I know your Dad's House and have lived in the village since 1991 (blimey, I was only a lad when I came here!) and so maybe our paths have crossed in the past!
Thanks for the message and hope you and your family have a great Christmas.
Nigel.

Colin Cliffe on Storming Norman

I feel It is quite right that the C.E. council tell Norman not to attempt to fix the ages-old broken drain, as it is clearly their job not to fix it. It is something they take very seriously and they are obviously very good at, as they have managed to keep it broken for many many years. People need to understand that these things don't just happen, they have many meetings about it where they repeatedly don't allocate any budget for it, what more can we ask of them? If people just started fixing things willy nilly it would completely throw into chaos the councils 'let's not do anything about it' department's long-term strategy. it is very reassuring that they have swiftly visited the site and immediately re-covered the broken drain thus compounding the problem even further, we are truly blessed to be in the hands of such a talented professional body are we not? Jamie Gleave on Storming Norman

Having read the post Norman placed regarding the ongoing flood we are all so aware of on A529, I would like to support his action. I'm not entirely sure how many years this issue has gone on, but it is clearly too long. Cheshire East may have made aware the problem to the "flood risk" department, but they may need to consider alerting the "road resurfacing" department too. By the time it's all sorted I'm sure this will involve several other departments. Maybe they should enlist the services of a reliable maintenance department and just fix it and stop passing it to all the departments which it seems pass it to the next department until it ends up in the hands of the "not enough funding" department. Spend our hard earned taxes on fixing the problems and less time sending letters to tax payers who are trying to help might be a good start.

Hi Bob. I think that may be for Kelsey Green. She lives opposite the butchers, first house nearest the car park

Chris Lewis on Sheep worrying

22nd December 2021 @ 5:37pm

I was concerned to hear of John Mcgregors loss of a sheep to dog worrying. It is a problem that has escalated year on year and far more so since the keeping of a dog during lock down became so popular. Responsible owner ship and control is a absolute must for any dog owner. I have 3 hounds which would naturally chase if given the chance and cause damage. They are exercised on a lead or I have negotiated with understanding farmers to allow them to run loose in well fenced stock free pastures for which I am very grateful. If in doubt to the stock situation they are not let loose. However as a veterinary surgeon in the Lakes in the late 60s and the seventies I was called only too frequently to incidents of worrying. Frankly there is nothing worse than a field with severely damaged ewes and lambs. Sometimes it looks like a battlefield from WW1 with sheep littered around. with distraught ewes look in vain for their dead or damaged lambs and vice versa the pathetic bleating of surviving lams looking for their mothers. You just wonder where to start.
Even the loss or damage to a single animal is profoundly distressing. The law is to be tightened which is about time,it will include just chasing even if no damage is caused. The usual excuse always trotted out is "They only wanted to play". Thankfully the vast increase in the dog population consists of small cockapoo types which will only inflict rather less damage. It is possible to train dogs not to chase or attack sheep. That takes a lot of time and training but is quite possible as Rosie achieved with ours.

Dave Shepherd on Just say hello

22nd December 2021 @ 4:55pm

Hello to those who can remember me, Bob Shepherd's son from Lock Cottage. Just wanted to say a Happy Christmas to all. Lived in Audlem for a long time and very happy memories at St James and Brine Leas Scholl. I follow this web site daily as it actually keeps me sane as I do a very stressful job and its good to see such a great community spirit is still going after all these many years. The village has grown so much but it is amazing to see the core nature of the village is being maintained.

Anthony Pearson on Jennifer Lechley

22nd December 2021 @ 12:55pm

I would have liked to comment on Jennifer and John's tongue-in-cheek remarks but I'm afraid I'm too busy doing the ironing.

John Tilling on Jennifer Lechley

22nd December 2021 @ 10:43am

I must say, Jennifer, you are a lady after my own heart. My wife, Ann, always preferred it when I was out of the way (probably playing tennis) while she rodded out our drains.
This was when we lived near the centre of the village and the problem recurred from time to time – now we live in almost the highest house in the village and we don't get the problem – it is, as they say, all down hill from here.

Jennifer Lechley on Jennifer Lechley

22nd December 2021 @ 7:25am

Thanks for your kind words Lynette. I'm not really a great one for internet chat – I leave all that to him and concentrate on administering his blood pressure medication when he's read something on the Audlem website that's set him off again.
Of course the irony of this is that our Wes is actually quite progressive in his views in real life and supports the feminist cause and eliminating gender stereotyping and roles. Only last week, for example, he went off to do the weekly shop at Morrisons and left me at home to rod out the blockage in the sewer pipe to our cess pit. Bless him.

Lynette hopkins on Jennifer Lechley

21st December 2021 @ 1:53pm

I just wanted to wish Jennifer Lechley and her husband Wes a very happy Christmas .
I thought the article Jennifer wrote was brilliant , I think you should take up writing professionally if you don't already .
I hope Father Christmas makes all your dreams come true . Are we allowed to call him that in this PC crazy world we live in ? ...'€🎄

Stuart Bruce on Audlem Saint

Good one Geoff. I had to read twice to get it.
How about Wendy Saint(s) ....go marching in?
Let's hope the Chatbox humourists take up the challenge and amuse us through the festive season.

James McGregor on Sheep worrying

21st December 2021 @ 7:59am

Hello all Unfortunately we have a dead lamb as people see fit to walk their dogs whilst having no control of the animal I asked the editors to put up something explaining the law regarding dog worrying however it would seem they have not seen fit to post it.

Geoff Seddon on Audlem Saint

20th December 2021 @ 3:55pm

Seeing the misplaced apostrophe in today's article about Audlem Saints' Christmas got me thinking about who could be Audlem's Saint (apart from James). The two that I could think of are Saint Salive and Fing Saint Whattheyusedtobe. Are there any more?

Jennifer Lechley on To Rosemary green

20th December 2021 @ 10:29am

Hi Rosemary – I've only just seen your suggestion that I go online dating – it's very thoughtful of you. However I don't tend to indulge in adultery, especially not over a harmless joke. Mind you, he probably wouldn't notice if I did as he'll be too busy in the New Year with the lawnmower and drill I'm getting him for Christmas as well as watching the Jo Brand DVD I'm getting him- can't beat a bit of misandry at Christmas eh?
He takes it all in good spirit too – we've been together a long time and are mature enough to recognise the difference between a joke and overbearing, virtue signalling political correctness.
Merry Christmas – and watch those cracker jokes – you never know what might offend.

BARRY wilkins on humor

20th December 2021 @ 10:03am

With all the doom and gloom going on at the moment, what this country needs is humor more than ever ,but with all the pc brigade , civil rights, human rights, cancel culture, and ban everything that might upset someone movement ie cannot say ladies and gentlemen, as it is no longer inclusive !!!! soon will be like China or Russia frightened to express ourselves at all yes there is very nasty content online and elsewhere, and some so called jokes beyond the pale ,but vast majority are just that jokes its what this country is famous for, doubt we would have survived the the war without humor ,that's it done!! off down the pub,(don't tell the wife )

Adrian Davies on Cleaner

19th December 2021 @ 7:15pm

Interesting (?) fact about "Love Thy Neighbour" in 2003 it was reported that DVD compilation of the programme was a top seller in Nigeria and the Caribbean. Rudolph Walker, who played the West Indian neighbour apparently regrets that it can't be shown any longer. He saw the joke as actually being on the racist neighbour. Bit like Alf Garnet in "Till Death Us Do Part". Don't know what any of it has to do with finding a cleaner, but I just thought I'd throw it into the pot.
Might be an idea to recruit a bunch of undergraduates to operate a "cancel" committee to decide what content can go on ChatBox so no one can ever be offended.

Nigel Young on Adderley Lights

19th December 2021 @ 6:35pm

Well the One.Network website is still showing Emergency Roadworks will be completed by 23:59 on 31st Dec. 2021. Ever the optimist me!

colin cliffe on Cleaner

19th December 2021 @ 3:09pm

Well said Terry, humour is very subjective, and just because someone doesn't find something funny doesn't mean that it is automatically offensive, I am sure many found Wes's comment funny, I know I did.
