We are pleased to announce that Dek Owen, the Canal & River Trust (CRT) Lead Volunteer in Audlem, and a regular contributor to AudlemOnline's news stories, has received his fully deserved recognition for all his work on the canal at an awards ceremony hosted by the canal magazine Towpath Talk held in Lincoln.

The CRT say in their Newsletter: "Huge congratulations to Dek Owen for winning Towpath Talk's Volunteer of the Year Award. Dek is a lead volunteer, volunteer lock keeper, has been involved with towpath surveys and so much more for almost 6 years.

"Dek really lives the vision of the Trust to ensure that we have living waterways which transform places and enrich lives. Well done Dek."

Dek, seen holding the award, is shown in the photo with the Editor from Towpath Talk and Caroline Killeavy and Neville Preece of CRT.

The second photo shows another Audlem resident, Rod Cottrell with his wife Christine, of Wheeleyboat fame, receiving recognition at the same event as a Finalist in the Volunteer of the Year awards.

Our thanks to Derek Jones for the photos and details of the event.
