Ukraine Appeal – Thank You

On behalf of the members of the Audlem and District W.I. I would personally like to thank those generous folk of the GOLDEN TRIANGLE OF Audlem, Hankelow ,and Buerton who responded overwhelmingly to our appeal on behalf of the women and children of Ukraine.

As a result of your donations of toiletries, nappies, toys, clothing and medication we were able to gather together a substantial amount of desperately needed items in 180 boxes together with the help of willing volunteers who again we cannot thank enough ( to many to name but you know who you are ) – we were able to get boxed, labelled and stacked for the onward journey to the central collection centre. Unfortunately we were badly let down by the company who had originally agreed to pick them up for us at this time.

Not to be beaten, however and with a further appeal for help we were immediately offered a life line. This came by way of Kirk Shenton, his wife Beverly and their son James. Not only did they organise and provide alternative transport but they all turned up at 6am last Saturday morning together with two of their friends, one of whom drove the Pantechnicon, the other the fork lift digger and helped us to get the boxes on board.

If that was wasn't enough after we spent two further hours loading Kirk and his friend Ian who was driving the truck set off and safely delivered this much needed cargo to the central collection point at CPR Uttoxeter. From there it was to continue its onward journey directly to the RED CROSS in Poland.

Very few of us would find it difficult to comprehend what some of the recipients have gone through before they receive our gifts but we would like to think that the items donated will go at least a little way to help, give some comfort and let them to know that we are thinking of them.

We could not have done any of this without ALL YOU GOOD PEOPLE and a huge vote of thanks to all involved. A final special mention to Olive and Geoff for their kind help and support at the hall and to the equally supportive editors of Audlem On Line
