Old Grammar School Update
By Sarah Windridge, Audlem Parish Council
Tuesday, 15 September 2026
The Parish Council has the following update regarding the grammar school:
The developer has been advised of the requirement for planning permission for the wall. They have also been advised that any development undertaken in the absence of planning permission is carried out entirely at their own risk.
The initial focus of the Local Planning Authority (LPA) had to be in relation to the protection and preservation of the listed building itself. Should it be considered expedient to take enforcement action in relation to the wall the LPA will do so.
The matter of any possible encroachment onto the highway has been referred to the Local Highway Authority (LHA).
What further action may be taken after the expiry of the Listed Building Temporary Stop Notice is very dependent on the level of engagement by the developer and whether they resume any works to the building in the absence of the necessary Listed Building Consent. At present the Local Planning Authority continues to be in dialogue with the developer.
The Parish Council has written to MP Aphra Brandreth to ask for an update on information requested from the Home Office.
Any further updates and information will be posted on the Parish Council website. Residents are reminded to continue to report any information or concerns directly to the Parish Council.
