The work by the Towpath Task Force completed at Audlem on the 19th, 20th and 22nd July:

  • Planted further/more plants and flowers (paid for by the volunteers) and tidied the "Welcome to Audlem" sign, including cutting back external vegetation.
  • Cleared the wharf area and completely swept clean outside the Shroppie Fly.
  • Edged grass and removed weeds along the access road all the way from the Bridge Inn to the Mill including sweeping clean the road surface.
  • Planted plants and made memorial flowers arrangement (paid for by the volunteers), including cutting back external vegetation, around the milepost adjacent to Lock 5
  • Edged grass and removed weeds along the towpath all the way from Bridge 78 to the Mill including sweeping clean the surface.
  • Removed mud from mooring rings on the mooring from Bridge 78 to Lock 13
  • Refurbished and repainted safety barriers to be placed on the access road over the festival weekend
  • Trimmed and edged foliage in the flower bed by the crane wharf.
  • Cleared gutters and drains along the road and towpath.

Also, work completed by Derek Jones:

  • Cleared overhanging vegetation, and cleared weeds and vegetation in the surfaces from the off-side access and moorings making the moorings between Lock 14 and 15 safer to use.

The work undertaken has concentrated on tidying and visual improvement of the canal in Audlem, what we refer to as the "shop front".

The work has produced some fantastic results with the visual appearance of the canal through Audlem "turning a corner" and hopefully now in keeping with the village and expectations.
