Buerton Primary school campaigners are drawing up plans for federation as they strive to prevent the school being closed. But it is possible that the County Council could close the school, which has less than 50 pupils, before the start of the next school year.

The school has approached Sound & District; Wrenbury; Audlem St James' and Bridgemere Primary schools with federation proposals and is awaiting their responses. A spokesman for Buerton school said: "We hope for a positive response before the public consultation. If not, we still have six weeks to respond to a formal closure period but we are running out of time. We believe federation will be a great step forward as we will be able to share resources and staff with another school."

Members of Buerton WI expressed concern about the school closure threat at their January meeting. If the school is closed there will be no community meeting place in Buerton whatsoever.
