The following work was carried out at the Audlem Canal & River Trust Towpath Taskforce event, which took place on Saturday 5th March.

  • Cut back external vegetation on the lockside of Lock 3.
  • Removed weeds, foliage and scrub from the ground surrounding Lock 3 and edged the grass around the Lock.
  • Cleared overhanging vegetation from the access cobbled surface path from Bridge 76/Bagley Lane, making the access and egress safer to use.
  • Removed weeds, foliage and soil from the cobbled sett surface completing the work on revealing the heritage cobbled surface and making it safer to use.
  • Planted 5 full boxes of wild flower seeds along the bank between the towpath and the hedgerow and also along the fence line of the access ramp.
  • Rotten & broken prohibition post found displaced was removed from site.

We also made good use of our newly available section Land Rover. Coxbank is over a mile from the CRT operational yard at Audlem so it made light work of transporting tools and equipment to site.

The volunteers enjoyed the day, which included hot soup, homemade flapjacks and coffee. It was also nice to see the welsh daffodils planted by the volunteers in recent years and also the snowdrops revealed by the foliage cut done over the last few years blooming with colour along the canal.

A big thank you to all who attended and supported, making the canal at Coxbank a better and safer environment for all.
