1st XI in rain-affected draw with Wayfarers

The 1st XI played out a rain-affected draw against promotion pushers Wilmslow Wayfarers at the Gorse Croft last Saturday.  The delayed start meant the overs were reduced from a maximum of 90 to just 54.

Skipper Chris Shenton won the toss and put the visitors into bat.  Wayfarers played attacking cricket and notable performances from Bobby Seal (31) and Martin Wright (41) saw them post a decent total of 150 for 6 from 30 overs.  Neil Humphries (3 for 53) and Simon Swift (2 for 35) featured with the ball and returnee Lyndon Woodcock bowled an impressively tight spell, claiming the wicket of opposition skipper Luke Unsworth.

With only 24 overs available, Audlem attempted to chase the total down until it became too risky.  Quama Matthews (31) and Paddy Leese (21 not out) shone with the bat as Audlem posted a decent reply of 137 for 8 as they opted for the draw.  All-rounder Joel Unsworth and brother Luke did the damage with the ball taking five wickets between them.

Audlem gained 6 points and Wayfarers 12, leaving the teams in fourth and third places respectively in Division 2, although the gap between the two has increased to 43 points.

On Saturday the 1st XI travel to seventh-place Hartford hoping to reduce the gap to the top three.
