Mid ARS Walk 23rd August

Peter Kay will lead this lovely local walk and below is his description.

The walk is just under 6 miles and leaves the Public Hall car park at 9.30. Below is an edited version of the walk description I originally wrote quite a few years ago. There are some stiles and a bit of road walking. Otherwise there should be few problems though one short section of path down to a stream can be difficult. Climbing is under 300ft.

The erection of a splendid new bridge at Brooks Mill after many years of blockage made possible a circular walk which we try to keep open.

Leave the village southwards on the canal and cross at the lock by the second bridge to access Mill Lane along a permitted footpath. As the road turns right, turn left onto the footpath towards Lightwood Green.

On reaching the A525 walk with care a short distance left and turn down past the Methodist Chapel to Brooks Mill.

Cross the bridges and head right towards Lower House Farm on Back Coole Lane. Walk right towards Audlem and then shortly go left on a footpath to Manor Farm on Coole Lane. Turn left towards Nantwich and leave Coole Lane on the right after passing Park House Farm.

Then head downhill towards the canal. Emerge on the bridge at lock 15, near the Old Stables and walk southwards up the towpath back into the village.

NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.
Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.
Non-members of Audlem Rambling Society (ARS) are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
