This Saturday's Short-ARS walk is being led by Tony Crowther. This is his description:-

Short- ARS on Saturday 26th March, a walk of 4 miles. There are six Stiles on the walk.

Leave Audlem car park at 9.30am, returning 12.30 – 1.00 pm.

We will drive to Maer which is 10 miles from Audlem in North Staffs. Take A525 to Woore, turn right on to A51 and head South. After going through Pipegate, past Dorothy Clive Gardens on the left, follow A51 past the Swan with Two necks at Blackbrook. One mile after the Swan, turn right to Maer by the War Memorial on the left.

On entering the hamlet of Maer, park on the right opposite the large church on the left.

The walk is mainly countryside, comprising of well marked paths, over fields, woods and tracks with a short stretch on a country lane.

We go from Maer climbing slightly to pass Akesworth Coppice and Middle Coppice to arrive at the beautiful hamlet of Podmore. We return along a lane, then across fields to drop down back to Maer, with lovely views across Staffordshire and the church in the village.

The Recce was dry with some boggy bits, but unfortunately the forecast is for rain. Be prepared!

3 carpet slippers rating if dry – if not 4 if wet!

All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry water (and snack if required) and be suitably fit for the walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not to be adequately equipped.

Non-members of ARS are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the £5 membership fee after a trial walk or two.
