Tomb is buried in Shavington!

Shavington cum Gresty Drama Group have announced the cancellation of their forthcoming production of 'Tiptoe through the Tombstones' by Norman Robbins.

The play has been cancelled after a dispute with the Shavington Parish Council over the replacement of a picture rail. After the recent alterations to the village hall the picture rail was not replaced and this has meant it is not possible to secure the set required for the play to safe anchorage points. The Parish Council has refused to replace the rail citing its reason as to avoid damage to the newly painted walls...

The Chair person of the group Stephen Williams commented:

"This is the 29th year Shavington cum Gresty Drama Group have put on a play in the autumn, but this may well be the last for want of a picture rail. We have entertained the village with sell-out productions for almost 30 years and our own public servants have put an abrupt end to our community based activities and charitable donations by dismissing our request for reinstatement of a picture rail. We are not relying on a fast response from the Council as it took them many, many years to get around to installing a disabled toilet in the village hall. I am sure a picture rail needed by a local drama group made up of local voters may have less priority.

The group have no intention of giving in to the parish council's obstructive and overbearing attitude and will seek to find a different venue for its next production, the sell-out Christmas Cracker so we can continue to help fund Christmas Lunches for the less fortunate through our continued support of Churches Together.

We apologise to members of the community who support us year in year out and who were looking forward to our next production."

The 'Tomb' may yet rise again!
