New RHI scheme can benefit Audlem

As was highlighted in yesterday's news item from Cheshire East Council, last week saw the launch of the Government's Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive scheme, or RHI.

ADAPT's Energy and Transport Group have been examining the likely impact of the scheme over recent months, and feel that this is a major step forward in making renewable sources of heating affordable, particularly in areas away from the gas network, like Audlem and District. It appears to offer the most exciting renewable energy opportunity currently available to many householders in Audlem.

We have calculated that, for dwellings of 3 to 4 bedrooms and above, the investment in a biomass fuelled boiler system to replace an oil or LPG system could payback in less than 4 years. The case is even better if the old boiler needs to be replaced in any case.
To access the incentive scheme, the dwelling needs to have a Green Deal Assessment conducted, but it is not necessary to use the Green Deal to fund the investment.

The eligible heating system types are:

  • biomass only boilers.
  • biomass pellet stoves with integrated boilers.
  • air source heat pumps.
  • ground or water source heat pumps.
  • solar thermal panels (flat plate or evacuated tube only).

Some householders who have already installed eligible equipment since 2009 may also be able to access the incentive.

ADAPT have provided further details of the scheme on the newly refreshed ADAPT 'Energy' section of Audlem On-line, which also contains a discussion of biomass fuelled heating systems, and considerations for those looking to adopt the technology.

ADAPT will be happy to discuss the scheme, or the technology with Audlem residents who are interested. Contact Andy Hannah on andy.hannah@btinternet.com, who will arrange for the most appropriate ADAPT member to get in touch with you.
