This week's Nantwich Chronicle devotes a full page to the pothole campaign led by local resident Peter Oxley under the headline 'Appeal to rectify pothole menace.'

We understand that Cheshire East Highways has offered to meet Peter Oxley and Audlem Parish Council to discuss the issue going forward and that hopefully a date will be agreed shortly.

The Chronicle's article starts by saying: "Audlem residents have called for the village's pothole ridden roads to be resurfaced and say 'dire repairs' are wasting thousands of pounds of taxpayers' money and endangering lives.

"Villagers say that roads such as the busy A529 and A525 have become so badly neglected that a complete resurface is needed, while many of the smaller roads that service Audlem are also in need of repair to avoid accidents.

"Numerous comments have been left on the AudlemOnline website calling for immediate action, with stories of 2ft potholes and drivers swerving to avoid large ruts. And dozens have been flagged up on the 'Fix My Street' website."

There is much more – see page 11 of the Nantwich Chronicle and the coverage concludes with a statement from Cheshire East – a similar statement was published on AudlemOnline on Saturday afternoon.

Cheshire East statement

A Cheshire East spokesman said "resources have been made in the Audlem area carrying out repairs" and that further work, as well as works on signs in the area, is planned to take place on the A525 from March 29th.

He added: "Our highways teams take local highways concerns seriously and are dealing with these complaints in Audlem as a matter or urgency but we would like to point out that all repair and maintenance works across the 2,700 kilometres of highways network in the Borough have to be prioritised.

"We'd encourage residents to report these matters directly to us so that we can respond accordingly and deal with the issue in the most effective way for the benefit of all our residents and road users.

"Residents can do this using our 'Report it -- Track it' online reporting tool on the Cheshire East Highways web site https://www.cheshireeasthighways.org/report-it-general.aspx .

"This enables our residents to locate the issue on a map and send photographs directly to Cheshire East Highways.

"They can also follow the progress we are making with the highways issue they have raised with us, by tracking their enquiry, keeping them up to date with information.

"It is not possible for us to constantly monitor all social media platforms to find out about any concerns but our teams do a fantastic job and work hard to keep our road network safe and of the highest standard."
