Popcorn and Rango

Last week at Youth Club we had our third movie and popcorn evening.

This involves a spot of low lighting, rigging up a ladder with a projector on, a bit of debate about the best seating configuration and fruitless attempts by the girls to reserve the 'comfy' seating at the front. Fruitless because the boys generally gather outside until the last minute and then roar in and discard the scraps of paper that say 'reserved' on them.

The girls are sanguine about the situation, those with brothers adopting an expression of long suffering tolerance.

On these occasions the green microwave (critically absent from last week's chocolate fountain saga) puts in a guest appearance so that we can churn out fresh popcorn and make like we really are at the cinema (with some effort it has to be said).

I am pleased to report that, this time, the young people got stuck in and mostly made their own popcorn. We do like it when they make themselves at home because it means two things; that we have less to do; that youth club is working.

The selected entertainment du jour was the Johnny Depp voiced animation 'Rango' which ended with a probable record audience of 4 left of the 15 that sat down at the start. All part of Youth Club's rich tapestry of organised and good natured chaos.

We had an additional diversion this week in the shape of a fab football table, kindly donated by Claire Capewell (big thanks Claire). This fast drew a crowd and was rigorously stress tested, holding up for this week at least.

This week we meet tomorrow, Friday 4th March, as is usual for the first week of the month (the last time folks – the move to the Public Hall is imminent'). Put in your curlers, grab your housecoat and prepare for the coolest bingo night in town. Prizes for a line and a full house, you can't possibly have anything better to do...
