Police cameras deployed on rural roads

Cheshire Police officers have been on patrol in rural areas of Cheshire, including Audlem, as part of an operation to target drivers with no tax or insurance on their vehicles.

Patrols use the latest Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology to scan vehicles and search DVLA databases as well as the Police National Database.

The police APNR van has been patrolling roads around Audlem and the surrounding areas of Acton, Audlem, Bunbury, Minshull, Nantwich, Peckforton, Willaston, Wrenbury and Wybunbury.

The national ANPR data centre along with the Police National Computer is constantly updated with lists of suspect drivers and vehicles.

Car registrations are checked against lists that include vehicles of interest to the police for crimes such as burglary or theft of petrol.

Uninsured drivers can identified immediately from data provided by the insurance industry, vehicles without a valid MoT test certificate will be flagged, and vehicles without a valid tax disc or with unlawful number plates will be identified.
