As part of the celebration of 100 years of Guiding in Audlem, I wanted to pay my own tribute to the Guide and Brownie leaders who have done so much for Guiding over the years and continue to do so in the village.

As a Guide myself in the 1970's and early 1980's, being part of the Guides was rewarding and long term friendships were formed.

In Guides we were creative, we learnt to do good deeds in the community, and picked up so many skills through activities such as Guide camp.

The energy and dedication from our leaders organising our meetings, activities and the summer Guide camps was incredible. At times as Guides we would moan at being made to walk in the rain along Offa s Dyke Path, build a shoe rack for the tent, or empty the camp toilet, but learning all of these skills was undoubtedly good for us (as we were told!), and made us the capable people we are today! Memories of sitting around the campfire singing in the dark- nothing like it!

So a huge thank you to the Guide and Brownie leaders in my day, Jane Dale, Gill Wolff, Chis Cotterill, and those who went before, Mrs Grimley and Mrs Pollard and those who have followed, Heather Jones, Janice Spibey and all of today s leaders including Karen Bradshaw, Hannah, Kay and others. We owe you a great deal.

Congratulations Alison Cowen

Ed – Alison also sent us the lovely picture showing Gill Wolff, Jane Dale and Chris Cotterill attending the party today – so very apt !!
