With the Audlem Music & Arts Festival kicking off with the acclaimed Poetry Slam at the Bridge Inn tonight at 7.30pm, it is all the more appropriate that we bring you, via Ralph Warburton, another poem from local poet, Jessie.

Jessie has taken on all-comers in the Poetry Slam on a number of occasions:

What will be – will be

Was it only yesterday
When I was young and fancy free?
It seems so very long ago – to me!

There was a time,
A time sublime
When all I wanted and needed
Was then and there
I had no worries- not even a care!

Now, all I have to think about is-
How long will my future be?
I tell myself "you silly old moo,
It will last as long as you do,
So, make the most of the time you have."
And that is what I aim to do.

Who can tell, so I don't dwell
I've had a good life -
Certainly lived it!
As all who know me
And love me, will agree!

There have been regrets,
Some I'd rather forget -
But life goes on – I hope -
For a good while yet.

So with this thought in mind
I'll live it with style, my style
However long it lasts.
