We've received the following updates as to our MP's recent activity:
On Wednesday 6th September I led a Westminster Hall debate titled "the route of phase 2B of HS2 to Manchester and Leeds" in which I raised a number of concerns around the effect the route will have here in Eddisbury.
I raised my concerns and those of many of my constituents on the location of the Western Leg Rolling Stock Depot currently proposed for Wimboldsley including the impact on Wimboldsley Primary School and the local community. I also challenged the Government on the realignment of the route in Cheshire by 800m to the West which will significantly increase risks associated with building on wet rockhead land. In addition to this I raised the issue of adequate compensation for those affected by the project.
On Thursday in a statement to the House, the Secretary of State for Education set out the Government's final decisions on the national funding formula for schools and high needs. The new national funding formula will come into effect from April 2018 replacing the current system allowing for a formula which is based on the individual needs and characteristics of every school in the country.
In response to the statement, I thanked the Secretary of State and the Minister responsible for schools for sending officials to Cheshire to understand some of the problems faced by the schools.
This announcement will see schools across Eddisbury receive an average increase of 1.8% once the national funding formula has been fully implemented. Secondary schools will attract a minimum of £4,800 per pupil and all primary schools will attract at least £3,500 in 2019-20.
Last Wednesday I recognised the vital role that North West farmers have contributing to the economy, the countryside and food production as I pledged to Back British Farming at an event in Westminster.
Farming in Eddisbury contributes £76.6 million to the nation's economy and provides 3,710 jobs -- this is on top of the safe, affordable food farmers produce and British countryside they maintain. In addition to its role producing food, farming also supports the work of other industries, such as vets, solicitors, surveyors and feed merchants.
I would encourage all my consituents to help support our local economy by buying produce from local suppliers and businesses. Whether it's meat from Oxtail and Trotter in Audlem to fresh fruit from Winsford Market to chutney from The Hollies Farm Shop please do go out and give back to the Cheshire economy.
