This rambler was apprehensive about an early Saturday start with an hours driving to Alderley Edge (visions of footballers country piles) and a very doom&gloom forecast for heavy rain!
However "turned out nice again" – well, at least for the 9 optimistic souls and the doubter! A slight rain shower at the very end – a shame I was unnecessarily completely waterproofed!
The drive to "The Wizard" National Trust car park on Alderley Edge took just less than an hour – but overall was well worth it. "The Wizard Inn" is adjacent to the car park – both reflect the fact that the disused Wizard Mine is close by. Copper mining was the industry in its time – some railway lines still mark the mine entrance.
The almost 9 mile walk – led by Peter Kay – covered much of the NT woods by Alderley Edge an also a couple of posh villages (footballers?) as well as Hare Hill NT site – lunched here – but I fear there may be a family insistence that we return to see the walled garden.
Overall? Glad to have gone!
