'Our World Week' takes us on a Global Adventure!

What a wonderful week we have had in school this week! 'Our World Week' began with the launch of our School Council's Mary's Meal's Backpack Appeal in Monday's assembly.

You, parents and guardians, will have received a letter this week about how we are trying to help this special project by helping children from poor families in countries like Malawi and Liberia get to school.

The assembly helped us all to reflect on how lucky we are to have some of the 'everyday' items we often take for granted. We will be running this campaign in school until Friday 13th June, please send any donations of items from the list into school by that date. Thank you in advance for your support with this appeal.

Across school there has been a hive of activity as classes have travelled to many areas of the globe to find out all about the wonderful world we live in. Sapphire and Amber classes have been exploring India in class this week; they have looked at traditional costumes, tasted flatbread and designed their own Rangoli patterns.

They were treated to Mrs Tailor's expert cooking of fresh flatbreads and have been able to look at lots of India artefacts she has brought into school to share.

The children in Ruby class have focused on Mexico. They have learnt about the flag, the language and have been comparing village life in the UK with a village in Mexico. They have also sampled some Mexican food, thanks to our school cook, Mrs Hayward, who also taught them a little Spanish!

Amethyst class have brought the Amazon Rainforest into their classroom by finding out about minibeasts that live there and making some wonderful models of their favourite kind!

Whilst children in Diamond class have planned a trip around Australia as part of their 'Round The World Trip'.

Reverend Jules and several of her talented helpers shared a special assembly with us all on Wednesday, acting out the story of Jesus calming the great storm and all of our children created super sound effects for the retelling which was great to watch!

Pearl class have been looking at children's lives in Russia, India, Brazil and Ethiopia. The children have all researched a country and produced a report on it. Reverend Helen also came in on Monday and worked with several classes sharing her experiences visiting Ethiopia and India.

Each child in Key Stage 1 have also been busy creating a clay face to add to a piece of artwork about People of Nantwich to go on display as part of our Skoolsfest exhibition at Nantwich Museum at the end of June.

A highlight of the week was a visit by Misoshi, a Ghanaian storyteller who worked with each class sharing drama, stories, singing and dancing work with wonderful results. This visit was funded by FASA which enabled us to offer a truly special 'global' experience for the children without charging parents and carers.

Poetry Week

The winners of our recent poetry week competition were announced today, well done to Hari Satchithananda, Harry Brookes, Charlie Chibnall and Lilia Crowley who were all worthy winners.

Congratulations to Libby Rayne who has successfully completed 20k on our Active Audlem circuit. Well done!

Sporting Update

Our football team were in action twice this week playing against Pear Tree on Monday where they lost 3-1 and winning 3-2 away at Stapeley Broad Lane on Thursday – a particularly impressive result given that they were trailing 2-1 with three minutes to go!

A super way to end their season, thanks to the team, parents and Mr Griffiths for all their hard work and efforts this season.

Several teams of Year 5 and 6 children represented school at an orienteering event at Reaseheath college on Thursday where all children did our school proud and one of our teams finished in 3rd place overall.

FASA

Tuesday's AGM was a chance to stop and reflect on just how much FASA's fund raising
events have achieved this year.

FASA Chair, Deborah Varley, presented a report outlining all of the wonderful resources and projects the money raised has funded including new staging, our new monitor displaying all the wonderful things children throughout school work on, supporting the cost of trips and visitors to help to bring learning to life and reading resources.

The meeting was testament to the energy and enthusiasm the FASA team give to school and the generosity of parents and the local community. Thank you to everyone who has supported this incredible work this year.

A reminder that our Summer Fair will be held on 3rd July. Please look out for more details in future newsletters.

ABC Childcare

ABC at our site closes today for the half term break. However ABC at Crewe is still open, and they have lots of fun, holiday club activities on offer. Please call 01270 669050 for more details.

Sainsbury's Active Kids Vouchers

Thank you to all of the vouchers parents, carers and other village residents have sent into school recently. These vouchers are a great source of resources for school and we really appreciate you passing them on to school.

School rucksacks

A reminder that we have a stock of school rucksacks that we are selling at much reduced prices between now and the end of term. We are selling the rucksacks at £2.00 each and they are available from
the school office.

Parent Forum

I will be meeting Alison Rayne (Chair) and Sue Rogers (Secretary) to finalise the agenda for our next Parent Forum Meeting in our first week back after the half term break. If you have ideas or comments you wish to put forward for this please send them in via email, the School Office or the Parent Forum post box by Mr Griffith's classroom by Wednesday 4th June. Thank you.

Carnival

Everyone's fingers were crossed for good weather over the weekend for the Audlem Festival and Carnival. We wish Carnival Queen (Daisy Poole) and Princesses (Molly Lancaster and Harlie Jewell) lots of luck on Monday as they play their special part in the Carnival.

Diamond class have been working with Christine Johnson to create some lovely artwork to be displayed during the Festival weekend. They have really enjoyed the sessions and have produced work to be proud of. They have created pieces of aboriginal art and their work will be on display at the Methodist Church throughout the weekend.

Finally

As we reach the end of another half term I would like to thank all parents and carers for your continued support of school and wish you all a restful and safe break.
We look forward to welcoming all of the children back to school on Monday 2nd June.
