Gunshot through window mystery

AudlemOnline has received the following email from a resident to the west of the village which is somewhat disturbing:

A couple of days ago when our painter was checking around the windows, he found one that had a hole through it with some associated 'starring'.

On investigating we found the hole went through both panes of the double glazing but had not penetrated the curtain hanging behind it. We found a squashed 2.2 air rifle pellet on the floor below the curtain.

The window is on the west side of our house, facing toward the river and to penetrate the both panes of the window the shot would have to have been made from quite close to the house.

Without going into a long description of the site, it is also quite difficult to hit the particular pane owing to intervening obstructions. Hard to believe it was a random shot at a bird, or similar, as it must have been from inside our garden and the dangers would be apparent.

We do not know when it happened, although it has to have been in the last few weeks. My wife is in the house most days and a night shot seems unlikely.

We have reported it to the police and have an incident number, although we obviously do not expect them to find who is responsible. Just want it on file if there are any other incidents.

Has anything like this happened to other local residents?
