The next Public Hall cinema evening is on Saturday 27th November and features Made in Dagenham (15). The film has already picked up the Variety Club Showbiz award for Outstanding British Film.

The film features the 1968 Ford sewing machinists' strike at the Ford Dagenham assembly plant, where female workers walked out in protest against sexual discrimination and the desire for equal pay.

The walkout played a large part in the eventual Equal Pay Act of 1970. The film stars Sally Hawkins, Miranda Richardson, Rosamund Pike and Jaime Winstone. The theme song, with lyrics by Billy Bragg, is performed by Sandie Shaw, herself a former Dagenham Ford worker.

Tickets are now on sale at £5 at the Post Office and Williams' newsagents. The film starts at 7.30pm.
