Ralph Warburton, chairman of ADAS, was alerted yesterday that there was activity at the Audlem village centre Beech Tree. He went to investigate and found that the concrete from the base of the tree was being replaced with soil. While many might ask why Muller's were carrying out this work, assurance was given that there were no plans to cut the tree. This assurance was given by a well respected local man working on behalf of Muller's. In addition, Ralph was told that an arborist, a professional tree expert, had told Muller that there was no need for any cutting of the tree. Another arborist had thought that there was a branch in poor condition but this has been investigated and this is not the case.

Hopefully, this professional advice bodes well for the health of the tree and Muller's intentions towards it. But the Beech Watch must continue and those nearby are urged by Ralph to keep a close eye on the tree. The media are also taking an interest and there was an excellent turn out by interested residents for a photograph which should appear in the Guardian later this week.
