Next Saturday's walk is organised by Howard Jones (the June and August walks were swapped around) and below is his description.
The walk around and through the Penllyn Forest , south east of Lake Bala, is approximately 8.5 to 10.5 miles with around 2000 feet of climbing ,most of it gained in the early part of the walk with no great loss of height thereafter.
The apparent discrepancy in length allows for a couple of detours off the main route (which I have NOT rec'eed ) to Cefn Gwyntog and Cyrniau Nod neither of which entails much height gain; those wishing to undertake these detours will need a map especially as the final part of the walk is not well signposted.
The effort is not as great as the some of the switchbacks encountered in Church Stretton say but there is a reasonable pull to the top so I would grade this as 3.5 to 4 boot.
We meet at 8.30am in the main Audlem car park on Saturday 9th August.
Directions for drivers – take the A5 out of Llangollen through Corwen turning left onto the A494 toward Bala; on entering Bala turn left onto the B4391 signposted Llangynog and soon after take the road on the right signposted Rhos-y-Gwaliau also shown as Lake Vyrnwy. Carry on through the little village of Rhos-y-Gwaliau and follow the road around to the right over a bridge; from here on it becomes a single track with passing places (a few) continuing until you reach a small picnic/parking area---you have reached your destination (assuming you followed my directions!)
