A new Council watchdog has been appointed to ensure that all Cheshire East councillors uphold the highest ethical standards. 

Cheshire East Council has recruited four people as independent persons to work with the authority's new ad-hoc standards committee. 

This body is a sub-committee of the Council's Audit and Governance Committee and it will meet only as required.


The four Independent Persons are Mrs Sheila Roberts; Mr Robert Fousert of Hankelow; Mr Peter Bryant and Mr Roger Pomlett.



  • Mrs Sheila Roberts is a retired solicitor, who lives in Congleton.    

  • Mr Robert Fousert, was, until his retirement in 2008, a head of crime scene investigations and senior forensic services manager for the police. He lives in Hankelow.

  • Mr Peter Bryant lives in Macclesfield and is an experienced senior manager in the field of corporate business.

  • Mr Roger Pomlett was previously an Independent Member of Cheshire East Council's Standards Committee. He lives in Nantwich.
