If you have a current account with any of the following banks, you can think of Audlem Post Office as an extra branch:- Alliance & Leicester; Bank of Ireland; Barclays; Cahoot; Clydesdale Bank; The Co-operative Bank; Lloyds TSB; smile; Nationwide.

The service is free and it's easy to get cash out. All you need is your card and PIN. You can also make balance enquiries, cash deposits and cheque deposits with the above accounts.

A number of additional banks – Abbey; Bank of Scotland; First Trust Bank; Halifax; Natwest; Northern Bank; Royal Bank of Scotland; Ulster Bank and Yorkshire Bank – have a Basic Bank facility enabling you to withdraw cash and make balance enquiries at your local Post Office.

With a Post Office card account you can receive benefits, state pensions and tax credit payments at Audlem Post Office. Ask Andrew Smith in the Post Office for details.

www.audlem.org ran a story on Monday about the threat to rural post offices. Using Audlem Post Office as a bank branch and for benefit and pension payments will help make sure Audlem Post Office isn't one of the rural branches that gets cut and we keep a vital local service here in the village.
