The Healthcare Commission has delivered a damning report on Leighton Hospital saying elderly people have suffered an 'unacceptable' level of care. The report came after a ward sister at Leighton was jailed in 2004 after being convicted of attempting to murder two elderly patients.

The Mid Cheshire Hospital Trust, which runs Leighton, says it has already started to implement sweeping changes to ensure care guidelines are met. Forty four new nurses and healthcare assistants are on the wards.
