Cheshire Police last evening released this update to the earlier news about the serious incident in Audlem early on Thursday morning.

Sadly, the 45-year-old man who was found with serious injuries in the early hours of this morning has since died in hospital.

The cause of death is still unknown, however Police are treating the death as suspicious.
Shropshire Road, A525, which was closed earlier, has now reopened.

We would urge anyone with information to come forward and speak to Cheshire Police by calling 101, quoting IML 73945. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The earlier statement from Cheshire Police was

Shortly after 1am on Friday 25 May officers were called to reports of an incident outside the Bridge Inn, Shropshire Street, Audlem.

Officers attended the scene and a 45-year-old man was found with serious injuries. The man was taken to the Royal Stoke hospital where his condition is described as critical.

An investigation into how the man sustained the injuries is currently ongoing.

Detective Inspector Sarah Oliver said: "At this stage it's not clear whether the man has sustained the injuries as the result of an assault or whether he has been involved in a collision and our enquiries are ongoing in the local area to try and establish exactly what has happened.

"Officers remain in the local area and I would like to thank local residents for their patience and cooperation."

As a result Shropshire Road, A525, is currently closed in both directions from Green Street to Stafford Street.
