A unique and, thankfully for many of us, relatively unknown element of our judicial system is central to this week's gathering of Audlem Probus Club's retired professional and business members.
On Thursday (July 10th), Adrian Farrow, a retired solicitor and barrister, will shed light on the history and work of the Coroner's Court, a concept which exists to determine the causes of unexpected, unexplained or suspicious deaths. It's a concept unlike any other court in England and Wales.
Adrian began his career as a Coroner alongside his legal practice specialising in criminal and health & safety cases. As he says: "The coroner's court is different to any other court in England and Wales and there are many misconceptions about the work of a Coroner."
Having retired from his legal practice only a couple of years ago, and still sitting in the coroner's court, Adrian's up-to-date knowledge and experience will be reflected in his illustrated presentation "Opening a door into the Coroner's Court". He adds: "I hope it will dispel some of the myths and misunderstandings, and, with some tales along the way, shed some light on the history and work of a Coroner."
The evidence before us surely rules out any possibility of an "open verdict"!
Guests and visitors are welcome at Audlem Public from 10am on Thursday, July 10th.
