Sunday Cricket Report

This was a game that provided total dominance of bat over ball with only one bowler on both teams claiming more than one wicket ( Ian Hughes of Lichfield with 3 for 30 off his 8 overs ). The batsmen from both teams had a field day in perfect conditions with the sun shining on a flat wicket and fast outfield.

Audlem took first strike and Michael Burton raced to 45 alongside the evergreen Steve Ellsmore ( 23 ) who was displaying his full repertoire of strokes in a fine partnership. Jake Topping played probably his best innings for the club with an excellent 50 before retiring to bring the Hardy brothers to the crease who continued the good work with Bertie retiring on 51 not out and Alfie scoring a delightful 31. Richard Irvine ( 11 not out ) and Billy Baker ( 9 ) added valuable runs at the end of the innings to reach a creditable score of 229 for 6 off the 40 overs.

Lichfield soon settled into their task with all batsmen looking comfortable at the crease. Alfie was extremely unlucky with a couple of difficult catches going to ground before claiming the only wicket for a bowler in the Lichfield innings ( the other was a run out ) as the visitors knocked off the total with 5 overs to spare with 8 wickets in hand.

Next Sunday Audlem play only their second away fixture of the season when they travel to Lilleshall Cricket Club in Shropshire with a 1.00pm start
