The organisers of tonight's firework display to herald the New Year are keeping their fingers crossed that the forecast strong winds and heavy rain don't compromise the annual extravaganza.

Liverpool may already have called off their display, but no decision about Audlem's fireworks, which are sponsored by ADAS, ASET and the Parish Council, will be made until about 10 o'clock tonight.

Even if the firework display is called off, revellers are invited to gather outside The Lord Combermere just before midnight when a peal of St James' church bells will welcome in the New Year.

At 7 o'clock Audlem Online was advised that it was likely that the fireworks display would be ok.
