As well as the current Exhibition of Canal Art with over 100 hundred works by a wide range of artists, there's a host of events at Audlem Mill this year:
14th May – 11th June: Steam Punk Costume by Monique Hollinshead, Audlem-based theatrical costume designer.
A fascinating exhibition of steam punk costume, including full-size steam punk models of a boatman and boatman.
27th – 30th May: Audlem Festival
Over 80 free music and arts events in various village venues, including poetry workshops at Audlem Mill and The Poet Tree (write a poem, and hang it on the poet tree).
18th June – 17th July: Audlem Mill Centenary
Historical photographs and documents about Audlem Mill, an animal feed mill built by H Kingsley Burton in 1915/16, powered by a Crossley semi-diesel engine.
The Mill was working for over 50 years, when it was converted into one of the earliest canal shops. It now stocks the widest selection of canal books in Britain.
23rd July – 20th August: Canal Art by Eric Gaskell
Linocut prints and paintings by the acclaimed canal artist Eric Gaskell.
30/31st July: Gathering of Historic Narrow Boats
Now in its eighth year, there will be around 40 historic ex-working narrow boats moored along the bottom three lock pounds of the Audlem flight.
Boats include Saturn, the last remaining Shropshire Union Fly-Boat, and Fellows, Morton & Clayton steamer President and butty Kildare. On the Sunday afternoon, nearly 300 historic and classic vehicles parade through the village and assemble on the playing field. There are plenty of moorings in Audlem for visiting boaters, though some of the events draw a large number of boats.
All events are free to attend.
