Calling out for people of good will – of whom we know Audlem has more than a few!
Can you help us get official recognition from the Alzheimer's Society as a 'Dementia Friendly Community'?
You don't need to know anything about dementia to help us – just willingness and enthusiasm to improve the quality of life of those living with dementia in the village.
We are looking for people to join a Steering Group to work on a 6-month project to take this forward, and we want to involve residents, businesses, charity groups, church groups and whoever else can help.
We aim to meet in early July.
Audlem already has a support group for people living with dementia in the form of ADCA's Thursday Club, which celebrated a happy first anniversary in May with a great party.
This club is run by Laura Stevenson, ADCA's Carers & Dementia Support Coordinator with the help of trained volunteers, and provides support to more than 20 families.
However, we are keenly aware that there are many more people even in our relatively small community who are affected by dementia – either experiencing it directly themselves, or living with and/or caring for someone with dementia. And these numbers will sadly only increase over the coming years.
If you are willing to help, please get in touch with Laura!
