As normal the Volunteer Lock Keepers / Lock Rangers met on Friday 10th August 2018 in their covered accommodation adjacent to the Audlem Mill Shop.
After our Lead Volunteer had delivered the site safety brief and issued the equipment associated to the days various tasks, the group split to cover the programme of work.
This month a total of eleven volunteers were involved in the various tasks within the programme, from replacing information signage, cutting back the hedge around the towpath at lock 8.
Cutting back overhanging branches above the towpath on the flight, clearing lock quadrants of light tree debris, and generally tidying the flight from lock 8 back down to lock 15.
The early part of the morning was perfect for our general work programme, but then the rain arrived, so extremely 'damp' we returned to our covered accommodation to dry out and have a hot drink, very welcome! As normal the morning included a very tasty bacon and egg roll, kindly supplied by our 'resident chef'
After our meal break the clouds cleared leaving the team looking at blue skies again, so out on duty again to finish off clearing up after the rain.
During the days programme of work some of the volunteers were fully involved in assisting boat traffic up and down the flight of locks.
As always another very rewarding task force day involving all aspects of being a Volunteer Lock Keeper / Lock Ranger on the Audlem flight of locks.
For information, please note that over the past couple of weeks, as shown below, the wall at lock 7 has been repaired by the full time Canal and River Trust 'Masons' but, with assistance from the Audlem Volunteer Team. Please note that a small amount of rubble is still being removed from site.
As always you are more than welcome to become involved, just ask any of the Volunteer Lock Keepers for further information, you will find us lock keeping on the flight of locks most days.
