This weekend sees the start of a new season for Audlem Cricket Club as the 1st XI hope to improve on last year's promising fourth-place finish in the Cheshire Alliance Division 2. With the Premier League reaching its climax and temperatures pushing 12 degrees, whites are being washed across the country ready for what promises to be an exciting six months.
Whilst there is little movement personnel-wise we welcome a new captain for the 2014 campaign. Club veteran Richard Wilson takes over the reins from Callum McIlveen, who fills the role of vice-captain. Wilson brings a wealth of experience to the role and has set his sights on promotion to the Division 1 this season. He said, 'With the players we have at this club I'm confident and excited about the new season.'
Stuart Stanway and Rob West look set to play key roles after impressing at the end of 2013 and Stanway will take the gloves as former wicketkeeper Paddy Leese hangs up his after 15 years at the club. We would all like to extend our gratitude to Paddy for the commitment and dedication he has shown the club during his time here and we wish him all the best for the future. He will be missed.
The 2nd XI look to consolidate their Division 4 place, having finished sixth in 2012 and fifth last season. Danny Thorburn skippers the team for the second year.
The 1st XI start the season travelling to Hazel Grove to face a Norbury 1st XI which finished ninth last season. The 2nd XI entertain Glazebury 2nds, a team which finished one place below them last season.
We have a new kit from Adidas for the 2014 season and our sponsor is Martin & Co. Pictures are up on our social networking sites.
