The team that beat Liverpool  The Coxbank Methodist Youth Club was part of the National Methodist Youth Clubs Association – a sort of forerunner of the Prince's Trust without Government backing.

The football team actually got to the semi-final of the  NMYA trophy playing at  Sunderland having beaten Liverpool MYA in the process. Amongst their early successes was a win over Woore in the Market Drayton Minor League Cup semi-final by 2-0 in a replay, unfortunately then losing 2-0 to Hodnet in the final.

In those days Audlem had a much smaller population and when three bus loads of spectators left to watch the cup match on the mayor's ground at Market Drayton the place was empty! Some travelled by train from Audlem station and Coxbank Halt.

#Team reunion
The surprising thing is that most of that cup-winning team are still alive and several still take part in some form of sport. So some of the team just felt that a "get-together" would be appropriate and the venue will be the Shroppie Fly on Wednesday 27th June 2012 at 10.30 for 11.00 when coffee will be available.

Any of the former members of Coxbank Methodist Youth Club are very welcome to join us at the Shroppie Fly.

#Team photographs
Three photos of various teams have been unearthed and can be seen here – click on the photo to get the names and explanation displayed.

It has to be said that there is some discussion about exactly which teams in which years are in the photos – hopefully this will be resolved after the reunion.
