COMMUNITY PRIDE COMPETITION 2015 SPONSORED BY ESSAR OIL UK

The 59th Community Pride Competition organized by Cheshire Community Action was celebrated at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall in the presence of a large gathering of Civic Leaders, Parish Councillors, Competition Judges and enthusiasts who had travelled from all parts of the County.

The Overall Award was presented to AUDLEM as BEST KEPT VILLAGE/MARKET TOWN. The village is well cared for and attractive to all who visit it. It is an active community which strives to keep up high standard of care.

Mr. Ian Cotton of ESSAR OIL UK, sponsor of the Competition presented a plaque and cheque. One of the reasons ESSAR supports the Competition is due to the important work done by local communities volunteering to keep and care for their local environment. It is impressive how much hard work is done to make villages and towns more attractive to live in

The Cheshire COMMUNITY SPIRIT AWARD WAS PRESENTED TO AUDLEM, Runners Up was RUSHTON, Highly Commended were HATTON & WINCHAM, Commended PICKMERE & TILSTON.

TILSTON won the Community Safety Award, which is sponsored by CHESHIRE CONSTABULARY.
Chief Inspector Giles Orton presented a Plaque and cheque for £250.

Jamie Christon, Managing Director of Chester Zoo, also gave an illuminating talk on the Islands at Chester Zoo.

The Little Gem Award has proved very popular. It covers any area or artefact in the village, which shows special care and attention. Forty-three certificates were awarded.

The Best Community Website was won by AUDLEM, Runner Up CHURCH MINSHULL, Highly Commended WILLASTON (Nantwich). The Best Community Newsletter was won by DODLESTON, Runner Up RAINOW, Highly Commended HELSBY.

Mr. Cotton presented the ESSAR UK Awards in the seven population categories. These were HANKELOW, CROWTON, COMBERBACH, AUDLEM, KELSALL, CUDDINGTON & SANDIWAY, SANDBACH.

ROSTHERNE received the award for the most improved village in the past year.

Three further competitions were – Best Community Initiative won by RAINOW, Runner Up STYAL, Highly Commended awards for BRERETON, FRODSHAM, SANDBACH. The Working with Young People Award went to FRODSHAM, Runner Up MALPAS, Highly Commended CHURCH MINSHULL.
THE Community Champion Award went to PATTI PINTO of CONGLETON, Runner Up Geoff Prince of FRODSHAM, with Highly Commended awards to John Headon of CHURCH MINSHULL, Peter Ingham of PICKMERE, John Stagg of RAINOW.

The LES GEORGE OBE AWARD was won by HELSBY.

The Competition exemplifies the community spirit in all the villages. It demonstrates and emphasises just how much voluntary work is undertaken to keep Cheshire a beautiful and attractive County. The competition encourages villages to improve every aspect of village life which is under threat in so many different ways.

The volunteer judges come from all over the county and spend considerable time looking at the villages. They all agreed that standards are improving every year.
