Combermere Win at Hudson's Heritage Awards ~'Best Wedding Venue'

At a celebratory lunch held on 1st March at The Goldsmith's Hall in London, Combermere Abbey was announced winner of the 'Best Wedding Venue' category in the renowned 2016 Hudson's Heritage Awards.

The Awards, established in 2011 and presented by historian, Dan Cruikshank, celebrate the best visitor experiences at heritage attractions across the UK.

There were ten category winners in total, including 'Best Shopping', 'Best Family Day Out' and even 'Best Loo'. Norman Hudson, OBE, chaired the independent judging panel, among them the acclaimed television presenter and author, Lucinda Lambton.

Hudson's is a renowned publisher and heritage specialist, and 'Hudson's Historic Houses and Gardens' is Britain's bestselling guide of where to stay and visit, established now for over 25 years.

The Abbey faced a strong line up of some of the nation's most prestigious historic wedding venues, including Waddesdon Manor, Buckinghamshire; Wentworth Conservatory, Barnsley and Chiddingstone Castle, Kent.

Sarah Greenwood, publisher of market leading guide, Hudson's Historic Houses & Gardens said: "We are thrilled to reveal the winners of Hudson's Heritage Awards today. The judges have been impressed by the standards of innovation and the range of visitor experiences this year.

"From great food to original loos, visitors to today's heritage sites can expect more than just history and beauty on a day out, though there is always plenty of both!"

Sarah Callander Beckett, owner of Combermere Abbey, seen in the photo with Dan Cruikshank, commented: "We are over the moon with this award, Hudson's do such fabulous work to support our national treasures and so it's our pleasure to be recognised by them as one of Britain's elite heritage businesses, especially so in light of the Abbey's recent restoration work."

The beauty and allure of historic Combermere Abbey attracts brides and grooms from near and far, seeking somewhere unique, exclusive and unquestionably romantic to tie the knot.

Marriage ceremonies take place mainly in The Glasshouse, with views of the world's only fruit tree maze in the Abbey's Walled Gardens, with The Pavilion being used for wedding breakfast and reception.

Combermere Abbey will shortly unveil its new bridal suite, part of the recent £2m renovation and development project of the Abbey's North Wing. 'The Salamander Rooms', along with its own house butler, will cosset the bridal couple for their first night in sumptuous accommodation, including master bedroom, luxurious ensuite bathroom, Tudor Study and their own private garden.
