Charity Open Day

Combermere Abbey, the historic 1000-acre estate on the Cheshire/Shropshire border, will open the doors to the public for their annual charitable Garden Open Day in aid of The Friends of Whitchurch Hospital.

Combermere Abbey will be opening the 10 acres of restored gardens and woodlands again on 27th June and 26th September. Guests will be welcomed into the grounds and invited to discover the charm of the gardens, with funds raised on the 27th June event to be put towards buying a new x-ray machine for the Whitchurch Hospital's Minor Injuries Unit.

With tickets available on the gate from 1pm on each of the select days, visitors will begin their journey around Combermere Abbey in the exquisite Victorian Walled Gardens. A glorious five-acre plot, here guests will find a private, secluded Rose Garden, the stunningly restored Glasshouse, the Croquet Lawn and the world's only Fruit Tree Maze.

Beyond the walls, guests will find the estate's 'Pleasure Garden' -- a woodland area aptly named for its calming atmosphere and aesthetic features; adorned with 19th century Cedar and Tulip trees, as well as an orchard of 'Lord Combermere' apple trees -- ideal for walking or meditating.

Its neighbour, the Garden Wood, is somewhat more energetic, with the bustle of nature constantly scurrying about, moving between the hornbeam, beech and oak trees. The noises of this wildlife haven, far from being restless, effortlessly eliminate the stresses of everyday life. Just past the woods, guests will discover a stunning lake that is guaranteed to leave them speechless.

After exploring the grounds, under expert guidance, visitors can purchase a piece of Combermere for their own garden! Throughout each Open Day, a host of gardening experts will be available to answer any questions that green-fingered guests may have, as well as a selection of stunning plants available to buy. A day out in the fresh air is never complete without some refreshments! Combermere's pop up Pavilion café will be up and running throughout the Open Days with their famous tea and cake on offer.

Those looking to explore more of the historic estate are in luck -- a guided tour of the Abbey will be running at 3pm, where guests can immerse themselves in the living timeline of English style and discover its secrets.

Gates open at 1pm and close at 5pm; adults tickets can be purchased for £5 and children under 16 for £2 at the estate gates on the day. Groups of 15+ and bus tours are requested to call the Estate Office on 01948 662 880. Tickets for tours must be purchased in advance via the Estate Office, and space is limited.
