The photo shows from last week our group getting organised at our new location The Lord Combermere Carpark, all the tomatoes,,fresh greens and apple juices sold, we shall have to find a way of displaying our little banner. There was no need for a gazebo as the weather was kind, hoping for a similar Saturday – this weekend.
We shall have more tomatoes, apple juices, free range eggs, a fresh batch of honey, possible plums, blackberries and the first of the seasons damsons, although mine are two or more weeks from ripening. The damsons are so useful and we have many recipes. They have one of the highest percentages of pectin in their fruit ,making it very easy to make damson jams and jellies, but don't burn the pan, as they have a tendency for sticking to the bottom, watch out for that, by continuously stirring. Don't forget to use a sieve to remove the stones.
Also on the market will be sweet peas, dahlia flowers, beans, straight courgettes and the novelty ones called patty-pan which look like a spaceship. They re delicious steamed or grilled and can be eaten raw when young. We will have our usual good selection of jams and preserves and cakes. This week the cakes are carrot cake and coconut lime drizzle so come early not to be disappointed. There will also be a good selection of seasonal border flowering plants to brighten up your plots for the autumn round the corner. 10am till noon on the Lord Combermere Carpark.
