Cheshire East Highways helps get the Scouts back on track

Resurfacing work on the A500 has produced an unexpected spin off for a local Scout camp.
More than 300 tonnes of planings – the top surface removed from the worn-out road – were recycled to improve the South West Cheshire District Scouts camp site at Milldale, Blakenhall.

The Scouts had asked for the planings for a new car park, but as well as delivering them to the site, Cheshire East Highways contractor Ringway Jacobs and surfacing firm Eurovia offered to lay a 350 metre track through the camp site, and provided labour and plant free of charge.

The Milldale camp site is used by all Beaver, Cubs and Scout groups across South Cheshire.

Rob Cave, of the Scout Association, said 'We were only expecting a stockpile of planings that we could use for our car park but when Ringway Jacobs offered to surface the track we were delighted.

"This is great for the youngsters and organisers as the track through the site was in a very poor condition with muddy pools to walk through. We would like to thank Cheshire East Highways for this generous donation.'

Councillor Janet Clowes, a member of Cheshire East's Cabinet who represents Wynbunbury, said: "I wish to add my thanks to the team for not only donating the planings but also in laying this lovely track.
"I know this site very well having had three sons attend Beavers and Cubs; I have even camped here myself, helping to prepare enough food for upwards of 60 hungry cub scouts."
