We have been asked on many occasions since the launch of the Mark IV version of AudlemOnline late in 2012 what has happened to the old photographs, school pictures etc which were a popular part of the Mark III version.

It was decided when Mark IV was designed that the historical records part of the website would be set up separately (although still accessible from AudlemOnline of course) to try to create a proper historical resource relating to Audlem history. This project, in conjunction with the Audlem History Society, has been going on quietly in the background and will soon be launched and available to all.

The idea is to include photographs, documents etc in a database "cloud" with a method of finding items within it which is intuitive and easy to use for everybody. Already several hundred documents of all sorts have been scanned in and catalogued.

As well as many other items, the cloud will include the school photographs, with identifications where known, which were a feature of the historical records part of the earlier versions.

As a taster, and for the sake of something completely different, the History Society has recently been given access by Harry Knapper to several interesting drawings in his possession which were apparently part of the Home Guard training – they were drawn by Mr Matthews in glorious technicolour and they show a frightening range of weapons which the Home Guard would presumably have used if the need had ever arisen. The drawing shown here is of some kind of mine – it is not clear who would have been in more danger from this fearsome object had it been used in anger, the Home Guard or the invading German Army!
