As the APHAx committee starts to consider rival designs for the new annexe for the Public Hall, an entry has been received from a group of avid AudlemOnline readers in Balmain, Sydney, Australia.

Their design provides, as they say, for a modest extension to the existing Public Hall (to be known henceforth by its more traditional name, the Town Hall), with an imposing Classical Graeco-Roman facade which emphasises the ancient traditions of Audlem village together with its grandiose aspirations for the future.

The well-known Australian Minister for Arts and Culture, Sir Les Patterson, has warmly recommended the design, adding that "those jokers who run the Parish Council could use their spare funds for this project and show the world that the Poms are not just rubbish at cricket"

Having considered the APHAx project, the Balmain group were also pleased to suggest a design for a new post office building in Stafford Street.

Finally, and aptly coming from a country that sees its fair share of firefighters' call outs, our Australian readers have suggested a more imposing frontage for the Fire Station.

They have also pointed out that if the parking and speeding laws were properly enforced, there would be a plentiful supply of convict labour within Audlem to allow these projects to be done very cheaply.

All the suggestions from Down Under can be blown up by clicking on the photos.
