Ambulance standards improved but a long way to go

Mersey Regional Ambulance Service Trust (MRAS), which provides the local ambulance service, introduced a comprehensive programme three months ago to improve services after being criticised as one of the poorest performing ambulance services in the country. The Trust says that the programme has improved the service with 76% of cases being reached by ambulance crews within the 8 minute standard. As well as improved response times, more people in cardiac arrest have been resuscitated. Figures for Audlem are likely to be worse, however, given the distance from the nearest station. MRAS is achieving 70% success when providing urgent transport to hospital for patients on behalf of GPs. Last summer the figure was just 44%.
