Celebrating Local Success: Winners Announced for Aphra Brandreth MP’s Small Business Awards

Small businesses are the lifeblood of our communities. They create jobs, support residents, and give our villages their unique character. That’s why Aphra Brandreth, MP for Chester South and Eddisbury, launched her annual Small Business Awards for 2025, following the success of 2024's inaugural competition.

The Awards invited residents across the constituency to nominate their favourite local businesses, and the response was overwhelming. Thousands of nominations poured in, highlighting the incredible contribution small businesses make every day.

After much deliberation, Aphra is delighted to announce the winners of the 2025 Small Business Awards:

Overall Winner – Williams of Audlem Ltd

Recognised for receiving strong nominations and outstanding feedback from local residents. This much-loved family-run shop, led by Judy, is celebrating an incredible 164 years in business this year. Residents praised its welcoming atmosphere, fantastic range of products, and deep commitment to the community.

People’s Choice – Okells Garden Centre

Awarded for receiving the highest number of nominations from local residents. Okells was commended for its friendly service, quality offerings, and the positive experience it provides to customers time and again.

Highly Commended – Malpas Farm Shop, Wybunbury Post Office, and The Village Pharmacy (Waverton)

Recognised for receiving strong nominations and excellent feedback from local residents. Each of these businesses plays a vital role in their communities, offering exceptional service and going above and beyond for local people.

Speaking about the Awards, Aphra said:

“Small businesses are at the heart of our villages. They create jobs, support residents, and give our area its unique character.

“After Government policies that have increased National Insurance contributions, raised costs, and put up business rates despite the Government’s announcement that they’ll be cut, it is more important than ever that we champion our local businesses and give them the recognition they deserve.

“These Awards were launched to celebrate that vital role and to say thank you for everything these businesses do. Congratulations to all our winners, and thank you to the thousands of residents who took the time to make a nomination.”
