Regular readers will know that Audlem Online loved the story sent to us by the Audlem Village Traders' Association encouraging you to 'shop local'. As we are now entering the final straight of Christmas shopping, it seems timely to repeat the encouragement, with thanks to Judy Benson for writing it:-

Is your Christmas turkey coming from Turkistan? Your pies from Pakistan? Do you feel you've battled with the whole world to get them in crowded megastores and supermarkets? So why not take the environmental strain and personal stress out of shopping this Christmas by shopping locally – in Audlem.

"Deck The Halls With Boughs Of Holly"..... where better for beautiful festive wreaths and table decorations than the Salad Bowl? Fresh fruit and vegetables – and how about some delicious locally baked Chatwins' pies and cakes or locally produced homemade pates? Their deli is delightful!

You can pre order for Christmas – then pick up and go – banish battling around the fruit and veg. aisle in the supermarket on Christmas Eve!

"While Shepherds Watch Their Flock By Night"... quality assured local meat from Vernon's butchers. Pre-order your local Turkey, Goose and/or cold meats. Local Heler's cheese makes a great gift, or a treat for your table.

"Gathering Winter Fuel" ..... coal, sticks and firelighters available at Williams' Newsagents – no need to burn carbon to get it! Also a great selection of gifts and cards; dolls houses; wooden toys; stocking fillers; Audlem cards and tea towels.

Newspapers are printed everyday except Christmas day...so prepare in advance to avoid crossword withdrawal syndrome on the big day!

Are you "Dreaming Of a White Christmas...With Every Christmas Card You Write?"... Audlem Post Office for all your postal needs this Christmas and wide array of counter services. Great selection of gifts and cards, stationery, helium balloons, Audlem cards and calendars.

"We Wish You a Merry Christmas"...great deals on wines, Champagne, beer and spirits at the Coop this Christmas. Get festive with their Christmas selection of party food, chocolates, and biscuit assortments, as well as their usual range of groceries and essential Christmas supplies.

"Not a Creature Was Stirring, Not Even a Mouse"...the newly opened Audlem Feeds shop for all your animal, pet, and bird food supplies – Reindeers to rabbits – all creatures great and small! Don't forget your 'little ones' (and not so little ones!), this Christmas with 'purrrfect' gifts and canine treats.

"Gold, Frankincense & Myrrh" ...by prescription only.... but plenty of other fabulous gifts at Wilkinson's Chemist – perfumes, speciality soaps, gift sets, toiletries, hair accessories etc. Perfect antidotes to every festive, and not so festive, ailments and conditions – pop in for excellent advice and remedies from your qualified chemist.

"Rockin' around the Christmas tree"? ...go to Braids Hairdressers for perfect party hair and nails. They offer a full range of beauty treatments, for men and women – ensure you look like an angel, or a king, this Christmas ! You can also top up your tan if your skin is pastey like the pastry.. "Let it Glow, Let it Glow, Let It Glow......."

"No Room At The Inn?" ...there are several local B&Bs and rental accommodations within the village offering comfortable facilities and friendly service.

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and ladies !.......put your feet up and relax in The Priest House Café, Bridge Inn, Lord Combermere or Shroppie Fly this Christmas. Don't do all the cooking yourself this Christmas .....enjoy the festive atmosphere and the good food in our local café and public houses. You can be sure of a warm welcome at all the Audlem hostelries. Celebrate Christmas and New Year in our unique village atmosphere.

WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE AUDLEM VILLAGE TRADERS' ASSOCIATION
