Abbey opens doors after £2 million pound restoration

Following an extensive renovation programme, Combermere Abbey is to host its popular Open Days, commencing Tuesday, 5th April and then every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, until Thursday 7th July.

This will be the first opportunity to see the results of the £2m restoration project that has taken place during the past 18 months, resulting in the fully restored North Wing, and the renovated 'Library', an ornate first-floor reception room, dating back to the C12th. The Library was once the room in which the Abbott would formally entertain his guests.

Funding has been achieved via an Enabling Development Scheme, planning permission for which took almost twenty years, and without which the structure of the whole Grade 1 listed Abbey was seriously endangered.

Visitors will learn details of this project, the challenges and craftsmanship involved and more fascinating anecdotes of the Abbey's long and colourful past, during guided tours lasting approximately one hour. Tickets are £6 each and under-16s, £4.

Group tours of the Abbey may also be arranged for private groups of up to 30 visitors. These tours last approximately two hours and include light refreshments in the Porter's Hall. Available weekdays during the summer season, April to October, by prior arrangement. Cost is £12 per person.

Pre-Booking is required for both individual and group tours via the Estate Office. Parking is free of charge.

Combermere Abbey is privately owned and still a family home. However, it is well known for its excellent award winning holiday cottages and as a wedding and events venue. It is located west of Audlem on the Cheshire and Shropshire border at the junction of the A525 and A530.
